Yorkshire and Humberside branch

The Yorkshire and Humberside Branch coverage area is determined by postcode regions and can be seen on our Post Code Map.

We currently seek a Chair for the branch, who might be able to organise one event or more a year for the membership in the area. The extent of the branch can be seen under the title 'North East' here. Every help will be given by our central services, so if you would like to discuss the options do contact our Society Secretary David Peace at society.secretary@caths.cam.ac.uk.

Thank you.

Sunday April 13, a day at the races at Wetherby

On Sunday April 13, a day at the races at Wetherby LS22 5EJ. www.wetherbyracing.co.uk . I am not a big racing person, but Wetherby is central to the area, it is regarded as the “best” of the north’s small courses, racing is an attractive entertainment and on this day the organisers are promoting a Family Day. This includes a Mascots’ Charity parade and race at 1pm, a funfair and other attractions in the centre of the track. So, it would be good to meet families (children under 18 free entry), not just members of college. The basic entry is £16 ph. There is a more expensive entry @ £24, that gets you into a smarter enclosure! I suggest the cheaper option!

The gates open at 11.30 am and the first race is at 2.30. I am not arranging any formal hospitality as such, but suggest that we meet at 12.30 at the Paddock Bar (see map on website) before the parade and then have a base in the stands where people can gather and come back to if they want to wander off. The last race is at 5.35 pm. I SHALL BE WEARING MAROON AND PINK!

If enough members are interested and would like a hospitality package, I could make enquiries and have some tables set aside for tea in the White Rose restaurant.

Please contact me at the email address above if you would like to attend.

Sunday August 17th at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The second event is on Sunday August 17th at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton WF4 4LG. www.ysp.co.uk I am sure members will be aware of this wonderful country park and galleries. Once again it is a good opportunity for families to join in. The entrance fee comes with the car parking. I suggest meeting before lunch at MIDDAY, at the main entrance to the café/restaurant. You can make your own arrangements for food, using the facilities there or bring a picnic. From that point we can decide on a walk, a look round the various galleries and then arrange another meet towards the end of the afternoon, for tea, say 4pm, at the café/restaurant. This would leave time for a visit to a local pub before setting off for home. Once again, if enough members are keen, I shall look into a hospitality package and/or a guide. I SHALL BE WEARING MAROON AND PINK!

Please contact me at the email address above if you would like to attend.
