Visit to Ushaw College, County Durham on Thursday 16th May at 10am

Ushaw College was founded over 200 years ago to educate students for the Roman Catholic priesthood. It is a magnificent collection of buildings designed by very distinguished architects including Pugin, and building continued for much of the 19th century. The College closed in 2011 due to lack of vocations for the priesthood, and some of the buildings are now used by Durham University.

We arranged a General Tour of the College starting at 10.30am. After a buffet lunch we did the "Hidden Ushaw" tour and saw the parts of the college that are not usually open to the public, including the former dormitories.
